What Tier 1 means
"Tier 1" comes from financial analysts ranking manufacturers by bankability: how likely a company is to still be around to honour its warranty. It looks at manufacturing scale, vertical integration and the large projects a brand has supplied. It is not a measure of the quality of an individual panel.
Why it still matters
A 25-year product warranty is only as good as the company behind it. Choosing a well-established manufacturer with a local Australian office makes it far more likely you can actually claim that warranty in year 12.
What to ask instead
- Who is the manufacturer and do they have an Australian office?
- What are the product and performance warranties, and how much output is guaranteed in year 25?
- What is the temperature coefficient? Lower is better in our Queensland heat.
- Is it rated for salt mist and ammonia, important near the coast?
The inverter matters just as much
Panels rarely fail. Inverters do the hard work and are the most common failure point. We favour proven inverter brands such as Fronius and SMA with local support, because that is what keeps your system running in year 10.
