About Kingscliff
Around the 1870s Carl Hans Gaenshirt bought land here, planted a vineyard and built a cottage. After his death, large-scale subdivision got under way in 1915. Cook had called the point Sutherland Point in 1770, and it was later known as Cudgen Headland, before Kingscliff was adopted in 1926, borrowed from a nearby estate to avoid mix-ups with Cudgen.
With so much holiday accommodation in town, solar helps short-stay owners trim running costs, and corrosion-resistant panels and fixings are worth the extra money this close to the surf.
