About Ormiston
The Koobenpul people lived along this stretch of coast. A brickworks started on Hilliards Creek in 1852, and Louis Hope bought land the following year, building Ormiston House between 1858 and 1865 as the hub of a sugar estate. He named it after his family's home village in Scotland, replacing the older name Woojanness. The railway station arrived in 1889.
Coastal homes near Empire Point get plenty of open sky but also salty air from the bay, so it pays to choose panels and racking with good corrosion ratings and plan for an occasional clean.
