About Wellington Point
In 1842 surveyors Robert Dixon and James Warner named the headland after the Duke of Wellington, victor at Waterloo, which explains the neighbouring Waterloo Bay. Land sold from 1864, and Gilbert Burnett was growing sugarcane by about 1869. The railway came in 1889, retirees and commuters were arriving by 1911, and piped water in 1969 opened farmland up for housing.
Being a coastal headland with sea breezes off Moreton Bay, roofs here face salt exposure, so marine-grade fixings help, while older homes from the 1969 subdivision era may need a switchboard upgrade before a battery goes in.
