Getting to know Burpengary
Timber cutters were the first Europeans to make a living here in the 1870s. The name comes from burpengar, an Aboriginal word for the place of the green wattle. A provisional school opened in November 1876 and became a state school in 1909. St Eugene College followed in 1989 and Burpengary State Secondary College in 2015.
