Going solar in Wellington Point

The Redlands coast runs from Capalaba and Birkdale through Cleveland and Victoria Point to Redland Bay and the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, with plenty of larger blocks around Mount Cotton and Sheldon.

Redlands homes face Moreton Bay, so salt air, sea breezes and the island communities all shape how we design and install systems from Capalaba to Redland Bay.

Wellington Point is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Being close to the water, Wellington Point gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Wellington Point: history and local area

In 1842 surveyors Robert Dixon and James Warner named the headland after the Duke of Wellington, victor at Waterloo, which explains the neighbouring Waterloo Bay. Land sold from 1864, and Gilbert Burnett was growing sugarcane by about 1869. The railway came in 1889, retirees and commuters were arriving by 1911, and piped water in 1969 opened farmland up for housing.

Moreton Bay wraps the north and northwest, with Hilliards Creek on the east. At low tide people walk across a sandbar to tiny King Island, and the 1937 jetty and boat ramps stay busy. Whepstead Manor, the clock tower shopping strip, Redlands Sporting Club, Wellington Point Reserve and the Sovereign Waters lakeside estate round out the area.

Being a coastal headland with sea breezes off Moreton Bay, roofs here face salt exposure, so marine-grade fixings help, while older homes from the 1969 subdivision era may need a switchboard upgrade before a battery goes in.
