Going solar in Thornlands
The Redlands coast runs from Capalaba and Birkdale through Cleveland and Victoria Point to Redland Bay and the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, with plenty of larger blocks around Mount Cotton and Sheldon.
Redlands homes face Moreton Bay, so salt air, sea breezes and the island communities all shape how we design and install systems from Capalaba to Redland Bay.
Thornlands is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Newer homes in Thornlands usually have clean, unshaded roofs and modern switchboards, which keeps installs quick. Estate covenants rarely restrict solar, but we check before we quote.

Thornlands: history and local area
Small farmers got their chance here in 1858, when Joseph Clarke gave up his lease over what was then part of the Cleveland district. Around 1900 the holdings of George Thorn, the big local landowner and the man the suburb is named after, were cut up and sold. Settlers planted citrus, bananas and mangoes, and Thornlands State School opened in 1910.
Covering almost 22 square kilometres, it has suburban streets in the north and larger rural residential blocks in the south, where some farming continues. Schools are a big part of life, from Carmel College and Faith Lutheran College to Bay View State School, opened in 2010. The Redlands rugby league club and Pinklands Netball and Pony Club are based here too.
The rural residential lots in the south often have room for a ground-mounted array or a larger shed roof, which can suit households running pumps, workshops or pool equipment through the day.
