Going solar in Redland Bay

The Redlands coast runs from Capalaba and Birkdale through Cleveland and Victoria Point to Redland Bay and the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, with plenty of larger blocks around Mount Cotton and Sheldon.

Redlands homes face Moreton Bay, so salt air, sea breezes and the island communities all shape how we design and install systems from Capalaba to Redland Bay.

Redland Bay is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Being close to the water, Redland Bay gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.
  • Newer homes in Redland Bay usually have clean, unshaded roofs and modern switchboards, which keeps installs quick. Estate covenants rarely restrict solar, but we check before we quote.

Redland Bay: history and local area

Settlers came in the 1860s and farming and fishing carried the place for nearly a century, with estates auctioned through the 1880s. A rail extension was surveyed in 1889 but never built. Flying boats operated from here between 1953 and 1971. Farms were steadily subdivided from mid-century and suburban streets had largely replaced them by about 2002. The Aboriginal name, Talwalpin, refers to a cottonwood tree.

Stretching over 52 square kilometres at the southern tip of Redland City, it takes its name from the bay on its eastern side. The red soil comes from old iron-rich volcanic lava. Ferries leave here for Russell, Macleay, Karragarra, Lamb and North Stradbroke islands, and Scenic Shores State School opened in 2024 to keep up with the growth.

Many houses sit on former farm land with wide, open roofs and few tall trees, which suits larger systems, though bayside streets near the ferry terminal still benefit from corrosion-resistant panel mounting.
