Going solar in West End

Inner Brisbane is full of character: Queenslanders, workers cottages and townhouses on small lots in places like Paddington, West End, New Farm and Bulimba, where neat installs and careful panel layout matter.

Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.

West End is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Many West End homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

West End: history and local area

Known to Aboriginal people as Kurilpa, place of the water rat, the area was later named by British settlers after the West End of London. Rainforest along the riverbank gave way to farms and orchards. Schools opened in 1875, trams ran from 1885 until 1969, and the Dornoch Terrace Bridge was finished in 1941. Floods reached the riverside in 1893 and again in 2011.

Hemmed in by the Brisbane River on two sides, West End shares a peninsula with South Brisbane and Highgate Hill. Boundary Street is the heart of it, with cafés and grocers, and Davies Park hosts the Saturday markets and the Souths Logan Magpies. Rowing sheds line Milton Reach and a CityCat stops at Orleigh Street. Old factories are being turned into apartments alongside heritage homes.

Character homes sit beside new apartment towers, so options range from small rooftop systems on heritage homes to shared building solar, and apartment shading can affect neighbouring roofs.
