About Bellbowrie
Subdivision started in 1972, and the name, thought to mean flowering gum, was adopted that November. A public pool followed in 1974, but the big flood that year slowed sales until Wivenhoe Dam eased nerves in the 1980s. Land from Anstead was added in 1990, and from 2001 old pineapple farms gave way to new housing estates.
Pullen Pullen Creek runs along the north and the Brisbane River curls past the east, with Moggill Road cutting the suburb in two. About 5,500 people live here on semi-rural blocks, and power lines run underground. Bellbowrie Plaza and the tavern sit on Birkin Road, as does the pool with its 50 metre outdoor lanes. The Moggill bora ring is on Riversleigh Road.
