Getting to know Ferny Grove
Ferns along the valleys gave this place its first name, Ferny Flats, swapped for Ferny Grove in 1916 to avoid mix-ups with a New South Wales town. A school opened in 1875, and trains arrived in 1918. For years the area was mainly industrial, but houses spread in the late 1970s, the line was electrified in 1979, and the high school opened in 1980.
