Going solar in Bardon

Brisbane's west takes in leafy riverside suburbs like Indooroopilly, Kenmore and Chapel Hill, the Centenary suburbs, and hillier, tree-lined streets around The Gap, Ashgrove and Ferny Grove where shading needs careful planning.

Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.

Bardon is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Many Bardon homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Bardon: history and local area

Upper Paddington was the original name until the Ithaca Town Council switched to Bardon in 1925. That name came from a villa Joshua Jeays built in 1863, itself named for Bardon Hill in Leicestershire. Estates opened up from 1887 through the 1920s, Ithaca Creek State School dates from 1885, and trams climbed to Rainworth in 1930 and on to Bardon in 1937.

Steep gullies split the ridges on Mount Coot-tha's eastern foothills, with Ithaca Creek running north-east through the suburb. A little over 10,000 people live here, about 5.7 km from the city. Most homes, 81.2 per cent in 2021, are stand-alone houses, and several Queenslanders are heritage listed. Purtell Park hosts Wests Panthers, Bowman Park has football and cricket, and Magda's runs arts events.

Ridges and deep gullies mean one house can get full sun while the next sits in shadow for hours, so roof direction and slope count. The many tin-roofed Queenslanders are generally easy to mount panels on.
