Going solar in Ashgrove
Brisbane's west takes in leafy riverside suburbs like Indooroopilly, Kenmore and Chapel Hill, the Centenary suburbs, and hillier, tree-lined streets around The Gap, Ashgrove and Ferny Grove where shading needs careful planning.
Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.
Ashgrove is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Many Ashgrove homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Ashgrove: history and local area
Freehold land went on sale in 1856, and the area stayed largely farmland until late in the century. Ashgrove State School opened in January 1877. Trams arrived from Red Hill in 1924, and the house style the suburb is known for, the 1920s and 1930s Ashgrovian, spread with them. The line closed in 1968, and Dorrington and St Johns Wood joined Ashgrove in 1975.
Waterworks Road is the spine, with Ithaca and Enoggera creeks winding through leafy parkland and bike paths. About 13,450 people live here, 5.1 km by road from the CBD. Ashgrovian Queenslanders with pyramid roofs, gables and verandahs line many streets. Supermarkets, cafés and restaurants sit along the main road, and the suburb hosts several schools including Marist College and Mt St Michael's.
Pyramid and gabled roofs on Ashgrovian homes split into several smaller faces, so panels may need spreading across north, east and west sides. Tall street trees along the creeks are worth checking for shade too.
