Logan Central: history and local area
Logan Central was carved out of Woodridge. When its boundaries were first drawn in 1985 they covered little more than the council administration centre and surrounding council land, and the suburb was formally established in 1986. Extra land from Woodridge and Kingston was added later. Logan Gardens took shape in the 1980s, helped by about 15.5 hectares bought from the Queensland Housing Commission in 1987. The local state school traces back to 1924.
This is the civic heart of the city, home to the Logan City Council offices, a police station, the Logan Art Gallery from 1995 and a library opened in 2011. Logan Gardens offers paths, a playground and parking. Woodridge station is here, along with Woodridge State School and Woodridge State High School. Most homes are detached, though about a quarter of residents lived in units or apartments in 2011, and more than half of households rented.
With many renters and a share of units, solar here often depends on landlord or body corporate approval, while owner-occupiers in detached houses have the simplest path to panels and a battery.
