Underwood: history and local area
William Underwood was an early landholder who ran the Commercial Hotel near Beenleigh Road from the early 1870s until 1895, and the suburb carries his name. This is traditional Yugarabul country. Underwood was gazetted in August 1975 and sat partly in Brisbane and the old Shire of Albert until Logan City formed in 1978. A further slice moved from Brisbane to Logan in 1993.
Underwood is bounded by the Logan Motorway and Compton Road, and it is well connected, with M1 access, the Springwood busway station and Kuraby and Trinder Park train stations next door. The Logan North Library opened in 2008 on the corner of Sports Drive and Springwood Road and offers free WiFi. There are no schools inside the suburb, so students go to neighbouring areas.
With quick motorway and busway links, many households here commute, and they suit a battery that stores midday solar for evening use, since the house often sits empty during the day.
