Berrinba: history and local area
Brisbane City named Berrinba as one of its suburbs on 1 November 1971, and Berrinba East State School followed in January 1977. A deal to hand the area to Logan City was struck in 1979, yet the switch only took effect in January 1997. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning "towards the south".
The Logan Motorway cuts straight through, with industrial parks north of it and in the south, and houses sitting just below the motorway. Berrinba Wetlands is the standout: 120 hectares of man-made parkland along Scrubby Creek, with 8.5 km of walking and bike tracks and more than 400,000 native plants. The local primary school runs a special education program.
With homes sitting close to industrial parks and a motorway corridor, many local roofs are open and unshaded by tall trees, which suits a straightforward panel layout and a battery to carry daytime generation into the evening.
