Meadowbrook: history and local area
River flats here once grazed cattle for the Kingston Butter Factory. Things changed quickly from 1990, when Logan Hospital opened, and the suburb was formed out of Loganlea in 1991. Griffith University's Logan campus and a TAFE college both arrived in 1998. The regional plan later named Meadowbrook a specialist centre for health, research and education, and a council master plan along those lines was finalised in 2016.
Health and learning sit at the heart of Meadowbrook, with Logan Hospital, Griffith University and TAFE Queensland all on site. The Logan River and part of Slacks Creek wrap around the north and east, and the Gold Coast railway line forms the southern edge. Riverdale Park covers about 10 hectares with off-leash areas and a playground, and the Loganlea Golf Course and Lake Elleslie are also here. Housing surrounds the campuses, with industry to the west.
Parts of the golf course and lake sit in a flood zone, so nearby homes should mount batteries high, and residents working shifts at the hospital may find a battery covers their odd-hour power use well.
