Daisy Hill: history and local area
The Dennis family were the first Europeans to settle, with James Dennis arriving in 1864 and land selection starting around 1870. His daughters noticed a daisy bush, Olearia nernstii, blooming across the hill, and the name stuck. The forest was set aside as a timber reserve in 1874, became a state forest in 1917 and a conservation park in 2006. John Paul College opened in 1982.
Much of Daisy Hill is protected bushland in Daisy Hill Conservation Park, and its forest trails are rated among the best mountain bike riding in Australia. The Koala Centre opened in 1995. The Pacific Motorway forms the southern edge. Old St Mark's Anglican Church is heritage-listed, and families have Daisy Hill State School, St Edward the Confessor School and John Paul College close by.
Homes backing onto the conservation park often deal with tall trees and patchy shade, so microinverters or optimisers can help keep output up when only part of the roof is in shadow.
