Going solar in Russell Island

The Redlands coast runs from Capalaba and Birkdale through Cleveland and Victoria Point to Redland Bay and the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, with plenty of larger blocks around Mount Cotton and Sheldon.

Redlands homes face Moreton Bay, so salt air, sea breezes and the island communities all shape how we design and install systems from Capalaba to Redland Bay.

Russell Island is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Being close to the water, Russell Island gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.
  • We plan island jobs around the barge timetable and bring everything needed in one trip, so your install is not dragged out.

Russell Island: history and local area

Robert Dixon surveyed the island in 1839 and named it after Lord John Russell, Secretary of State for the Colonies. John Campbell took a lease on the northern end in 1866. The Jackson family arrived in 1906 and their village, Jacksonville, had a sawmill, pineapple cannery and picture theatre. Land scams in the 1970s chopped farms into more than 20,000 blocks, some underwater at high tide.

Eight kilometres long and nearly three wide, it is the largest of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, with Canaipa Passage separating it from North Stradbroke. Canaipa, a Yugambeh name, is officially recognised as an alternative name for the island. There is a state school, library, YMCA pool, police, fire and ambulance stations, an RSL and bowls club, and a shopping village with a supermarket.

Island homes sit surrounded by salt water and a ferry ride from the mainland, so marine-grade mounting and a battery for backup during outages make a lot of sense here.
