Going solar in Woongoolba
The northern Gold Coast is one of the fastest growing parts of Queensland, from the canals of Runaway Bay and Hope Island to new estates in Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau and semi-rural blocks around Wongawallan.
Over half of Gold Coast houses already have rooftop solar, so a lot of our work here is batteries, upgrades and fixing tired systems, alongside new installs in growth areas like Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau.
Woongoolba is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Plenty of Woongoolba properties are on acreage, which opens up ground-mounted arrays, sheds and larger systems. Rural feeders also see more outages, so battery backup is popular here.

Woongoolba: history and local area
German settlers took up land here between 1864 and 1900, when the district was known as Pimpama Island. Its school opened in 1876 as Pimpama Island Provisional School and took the name Woongoolba in 1930, a word believed to mean the geebung tree. Carl Heinrich Heck set up the Rocky Point Sugar Mill in 1878, and his family homestead now stands in the Beenleigh Historical Village.
Most of Woongoolba sits below 10 metres, with Marks Hill reaching just 20 metres in the north-east. The Logan River runs along the north and Moreton Bay lies beyond. Sugarcane fills most paddocks, and the north-east has prawn farms and marshland. Cecil Zipf Park, reached by a causeway, has barbecues, a dog off-leash area and a beach popular for bream. The public hall dates from 1917.
Low, flat cane country leaves roofs fully open to the sun, but sites near the river and marsh should mount inverters and batteries high on the wall to stay clear of floodwater.
