Camp Hill: a local snapshot
German farmers Peter Schick and Kasper Klüpfel bought land here in 1859, and for a while the rise was called Schick's Hill. The current name comes from the Four Mile Camp Hill, a resting spot for drovers and travellers. Estates such as Coorparoo Heights and Mount Bruce Homesites were subdivided between 1916 and 1925, and the tram from Coorparoo reached the area in January 1925. In World War II a US Army hospital stood behind the Camp Hill Hotel.
Homes on the slopes of Whites Hill, Esquiline Hill and Sankeys Mountain can catch excellent morning or afternoon sun, but bushland reserves and hill shadows mean panel placement should be checked against the actual sun path.
