Going solar in Chelmer

Brisbane's southside covers older post-war suburbs like Annerley, Moorooka and Holland Park, the busy family areas around Sunnybank, Mansfield and Carindale, and newer pockets at Pallara and Forest Lake.

Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.

Chelmer is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Low-lying pockets of Chelmer sit inside council flood mapping. Where it matters we mount inverters and batteries above the flood planning level and keep isolators easy to reach.
  • Many Chelmer homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Chelmer: history and local area

Thomas Boyland ran cattle and sheep on this river bend, then called Boyland's Pocket. The railway arrived with Oxley's Point station in 1876, and the siding named Chelmer in 1881 was probably a nod to the River Chelmer in Essex. Estates followed in 1884, 1901, 1914 and the early 1920s. Sherwood Shire took it in from 1903 until it joined Brisbane in 1925.

Chelmer occupies a bend of the Brisbane River between Chelmer Reach and Indooroopilly Reach, linked across the water by the Walter Taylor Bridge, two rail bridges and the Jack Pesch footbridge. It is quiet and low density, mostly Queenslanders plus newer brick homes. Laurel Avenue's camphor laurels were voted Brisbane's Best Street in 1999. The 2011 floods hit hard here.

Low density riverside homes, many of them Queenslanders, generally have roof space to spare, but after the 2011 floods it makes sense to keep inverters and batteries well above ground level.
