Solar panels for Chelmer, planned around your home

Whether it is your first system or you are replacing an old one, we size solar for Chelmer homes around real usage, not the biggest number we can fit on the roof.

A typical 6.6kW system in Chelmer makes about 27.7kWh a day on average across the year, while a 10kW system makes about 42kWh. Chelmer is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

Brisbane's southside covers older post-war suburbs like Annerley, Moorooka and Holland Park, the busy family areas around Sunnybank, Mansfield and Carindale, and newer pockets at Pallara and Forest Lake. From Chelmer to nearby Graceville and Indooroopilly, we quote every job in person so the price you sign is the price you pay.

  • Low-lying pockets of Chelmer sit inside council flood mapping. Where it matters we mount inverters and batteries above the flood planning level and keep isolators easy to reach.
  • Many Chelmer homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Getting to know Chelmer

Thomas Boyland ran cattle and sheep on this river bend, then called Boyland's Pocket. The railway arrived with Oxley's Point station in 1876, and the siding named Chelmer in 1881 was probably a nod to the River Chelmer in Essex. Estates followed in 1884, 1901, 1914 and the early 1920s. Sherwood Shire took it in from 1903 until it joined Brisbane in 1925.

Chelmer occupies a bend of the Brisbane River between Chelmer Reach and Indooroopilly Reach, linked across the water by the Walter Taylor Bridge, two rail bridges and the Jack Pesch footbridge. It is quiet and low density, mostly Queenslanders plus newer brick homes. Laurel Avenue's camphor laurels were voted Brisbane's Best Street in 1999. The 2011 floods hit hard here.

How much does solar cost in Chelmer?

Most Chelmer homes pay between $4,800 and $7,000 for a quality 6.6kW system and $7,400 to $11,000 for 10kW, after the federal rebate. We give you a fixed price after a free on-site measure, so there are no surprises on install day.

What size solar system do I need in Chelmer?

Look at your bill. Most families using 20 to 30kWh a day suit 6.6kW to 10kW. If you run pool pumps, ducted air or an EV, or plan to add a battery, 10kW to 13kW usually makes more sense. Energex export limits also shape the right inverter size.

Is solar still worth it with low feed-in tariffs?

Yes, if the system is sized for self-use. Every kWh you use from your panels saves you the full retail rate, which is far more than the few cents you get for exporting. Running dishwashers, pool pumps and hot water in the middle of the day makes a big difference, and a battery stretches it into the evening.

How long does installation take?

Most homes are done in a single day. We book the install once your network approval comes back, then arrange the meter change with your retailer.

Do you install solar on tile, tin and Klip-Lok roofs in Chelmer?

Yes. We install on concrete and terracotta tiles, corrugated iron, Colorbond and Klip-Lok, with tilt frames where a flat roof needs them.

Do you service Chelmer 4068 and nearby suburbs?

Yes. Chelmer is part of our Brisbane Southside service area in the Brisbane City Council area, and we regularly work in Graceville, Indooroopilly, Sherwood, Fig Tree Pocket. Call 0449 942 735 or request a quote online and we will reply within 24 hours.
