Going solar in Tennyson
Brisbane's southside covers older post-war suburbs like Annerley, Moorooka and Holland Park, the busy family areas around Sunnybank, Mansfield and Carindale, and newer pockets at Pallara and Forest Lake.
Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.
Tennyson is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Low-lying pockets of Tennyson sit inside council flood mapping. Where it matters we mount inverters and batteries above the flood planning level and keep isolators easy to reach.

Tennyson: history and local area
Settler James Strong called the riverside land Softstone Pocket. In May 1887 the railway siding was renamed Tennyson, reportedly at the suggestion of businessman Edgar Wright Walker, in honour of the English poet. A year later 255 lots in the Tennyson Estate went to auction. The coal fired Tennyson Power Station ran from 1953 to 1986 before being knocked down, and the Queensland Tennis Centre opened on that site in 2009.
This small pocket of about 1.3 square kilometres sits on the southern bank of the Brisbane River, with Oxley Creek along its western edge. Each January the tennis centre hosts the Brisbane International. A Gregory Terrace rowing shed and playing fields line Oxley Creek. The Corinda to Yeerongpilly rail line passes through, though Tennyson station has had no passenger services since 2011. The CBD is 9.4 km away.
Fittingly, a suburb that once ran on a coal power station now suits rooftop solar, though riverside homes beside the Brisbane River and Oxley Creek should keep inverters and batteries above known flood heights.
