Going solar in Mermaid Beach
The central Gold Coast takes in the high-rise strip from Broadbeach to Main Beach, the canal homes of Bundall, Benowa and Isle of Capri, and family suburbs like Ashmore, Nerang and Carrara.
Over half of Gold Coast houses already have rooftop solar, so a lot of our work here is batteries, upgrades and fixing tired systems, alongside new installs in growth areas like Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau.
Mermaid Beach is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Being close to the water, Mermaid Beach gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Mermaid Beach: history and local area
John Oxley came up this coast in 1823 aboard the cutter HMS Mermaid, and the beach later took the vessel's name. Around 1924 R. G. Oates Estates put 70 lots up for auction as the Mermaid Beach Estate, split by what was then called the New Coastal Road. A local first came on 24 August 1975, when Queensland's first McDonald's opened its doors here.
Squeezed between the Pacific Ocean and the canals of Mermaid Waters, this is a narrow strip of just 1.5 km² with Broadbeach to the north and Miami to the south. The Gold Coast Highway runs down the middle, and the Oceanway path follows Hedges Avenue along the sand. Two surf clubs patrol the beach. Around 7,300 people lived here in 2021, a jump from about 5,700 a decade earlier.
Homes this close to the surf live with constant salt spray, so corrosion-rated panels, stainless fixings and an inverter tucked out of the weather are worth insisting on, and regular rinsing helps keep output up.
