Mount Warren Park: history and local area
This is Yugambeh country. William Stanley Warren planted sugar here in February 1865, but the land stayed rural for another century. Development started in 1974, the area was named a locality in 1975, and the first subdivision around Rochester Drive was gazetted by 1976. In the early 1980s the 4BK Free Home lotteries built house and land packages in the estate. The state school opened in 1981 and Windaroo State School in 1992.
Directly south of Beenleigh, the suburb is wrapped on the east and south by the Albert River and Windaroo Creek. Mount Warren rises to 76 metres in the west, and the Mount Warren Park Ridge nature reserve has walking trails. A golf course runs along the river. Two shopping centres cover daily needs, with a supermarket, bakery, chemist and medical centre, and three schools serve local families.
Many homes from the 1970s and 1980s estate days now have older roofs and switchboards, so a solar job here may start with a board check, and houses near the ridge should allow for afternoon shade.
