Regents Park: history and local area
The area was once part of Browns Plains and was carved up for homes from 1974. It was known as Emerald Hills for a time, which is why Emerald Drive still runs through, before the developer put forward the name Regents Park. Schools came as families moved in: St Bernardine's in 1982, Yugumbir State School in 1986 and Regents Park State School in 1994.
Regents Park is almost completely residential and very family-focused, with 83.9 per cent of households counted as families in 2021. It is well stocked with green space, including Hyde Park, Regency Park, Redgum Drive Park, Shannon Ramsay Park and Waller Park. There are three primary schools but no high school, so older students travel to Browns Plains or Park Ridge.
With so many family households, power use often peaks after school and into the evening, which is where a battery paired with a north or west facing array tends to earn its keep.
