Forestdale: history and local area
Much of this land belonged to farmer and publican George Stretton in 1927, and nothing much happened until Paradise Road was cut as a dirt track in 1946. Farming started in the 1970s, most houses went up in the 1980s, and it split from Browns Plains as its own suburb in 1987. Developers chose the name, and plenty of streets carry Robin Hood characters.
Oxley Creek runs through from Greenbank toward Heathwood, and old sand extraction pits along it became Greenwood Lakes, a wetland with a big lake, boardwalk, viewing platform and picnic tables popular with bird watchers. The Brisbane to Sydney railway marks the eastern edge. There are no schools inside the suburb, so kids head to Browns Plains, Regents Park and Forest Lake.
With most houses built during the 1980s, roof sheeting and switchboards may be getting on in years, so checking both before adding panels or a battery saves headaches later.
