Sinnamon Park: history and local area
James and Margaret Sinnamon headed the pioneering family whose farm left its mark here, including the homesteads Avondale, Beechwood and Glen Ross, plus the old Seventeen Mile Rocks School, now heritage listed. The district sat within the Sherwood shire until Brisbane absorbed it in 1925. Sinnamon Park was carved out of Seventeen Mile Rocks as its own suburb in May 1989.
Residential streets fill this 3 square kilometre suburb, home to about 6,590 people and 14 km by road south-west of the CBD. The Brisbane River lines the northern edge, Jindalee Creek's bushy banks mark part of the east, and the Western Freeway runs down the west. The Sinnamon Memorial Uniting Church and Sinnamon Village retirement complex are on Seventeen Mile Rocks Road.
As a purely residential suburb, most homes here have their own roof and switchboard to work with. Properties closer to the river or Jindalee Creek should keep batteries and inverters well off the ground.
