Yarrabilba: history and local area
This is the land of the Wangerriburra clan of the Yugambeh language group, and Yarrabilba is said to mean place of song, a nod to two bora rings once used for ceremonies. A railway to Canungra crossed the area from 1915 to 1955, and during World War II much of it was taken up by the Camp Cable training base. In 2010 it was announced as a future city for up to 50,000 people, with building under way from 2011.
Yarrabilba is a master-planned community growing fast, from 3,580 residents in 2016 to 10,240 in 2021. It is split into ten neighbourhoods, among them The Avenues, Birnam Views, Sandstone Ridge and Wickham Rise. Darlington Parklands sits between Oak Leaf and Vista. Families have four schools on hand, including a state primary from 2018, a state secondary college from 2020 and two Catholic schools.
New master-planned homes usually come with modern switchboards and clean, unshaded roofs, which makes adding panels and a battery straightforward, and young families with busy evenings tend to get good value from storage.
