Going solar in Yeronga

Brisbane's southside covers older post-war suburbs like Annerley, Moorooka and Holland Park, the busy family areas around Sunnybank, Mansfield and Carindale, and newer pockets at Pallara and Forest Lake.

Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.

Yeronga is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Low-lying pockets of Yeronga sit inside council flood mapping. Where it matters we mount inverters and batteries above the flood planning level and keep isolators easy to reach.
  • Many Yeronga homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Yeronga: history and local area

The Jagera people were the first inhabitants. The first recorded land sale was in 1854, and early farmers ran dairies and grew cotton, sugar, maize, potatoes and arrowroot. Houses spread along Fairfield Road and today's Kadumba Street once the railway opened in 1884, and the last farm was subdivided in the mid-1950s. The name may come from Aboriginal words for a sandy place.

The Brisbane River curls around the west and north, and old riverside lagoons were filled to make parks and sports fields. The 1974 and 2011 floods hit hard. Yeronga Memorial Park, Chipsy Wood Oval and Goodwin Park host croquet, rugby and football, and the station on the Beenleigh line sits opposite the Fairfield Road shops. Many heritage-listed houses remain.

Riverside streets that flooded in 1974 and 2011 are worth planning around, so mounting batteries and inverters up high, above known flood levels, is a practical step for homes near the Brisbane River.
