Going solar in Bilambil
The Tweed runs from the border at Tweed Heads down the coast to Pottsville and inland along the river to Murwillumbah and Uki, a mix of beach houses, river-flat towns and hinterland acreage.
From the river towns around Murwillumbah to the beach suburbs of Kingscliff, Cabarita and Pottsville, the Tweed sits on the NSW side of the border, so it runs on Essential Energy's network and NSW energy rules.
Bilambil is on Essential Energy's network, so your system is designed to Essential Energy's connection rules (typically a 5kW export limit) and NSW feed-in tariffs. We handle the network application for you.
- Plenty of Bilambil properties are on acreage, which opens up ground-mounted arrays, sheds and larger systems. Rural feeders also see more outages, so battery backup is popular here.

Bilambil: history and local area
Bilambil is on the traditional lands of the Ngandowal and Minyungbal-speaking Bundjalung people. Its story in the records is mostly told through sport. The Bilambil Jets rugby league club plays home games at the Bilambil Sports Complex on Bilambil Road, and the Bilambil Terranora soccer club crosses the border each season to compete in Queensland competitions.
This is a small place, with just 441 residents counted in 2021 and a median age of 45. It falls within Tweed Shire, the Tweed state electorate and the federal Division of Richmond, and sits about 106 km south-south-east of Brisbane. Most locals were born in Australia, with England and New Zealand the next most common birthplaces.
In a small community of a few hundred people, a well-sized rooftop system and, where evening use is high, a battery can make a household far less exposed to rising grid prices.
