Going solar in Bilinga
The southern Gold Coast stretches from Coolangatta and the beaches of Palm Beach and Burleigh back to Robina, Mudgeeraba and the valleys of Currumbin and Tallebudgera, with everything from beachfront units to acreage.
Over half of Gold Coast houses already have rooftop solar, so a lot of our work here is batteries, upgrades and fixing tired systems, alongside new installs in growth areas like Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau.
Bilinga is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Being close to the water, Bilinga gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Bilinga: history and local area
Land near the NSW border was put up for selection in February 1908, and a rail siding opened in 1919. A general store near the siding helped the settlement grow, and a new coastal road later made it easier to reach. The name, adopted in 1918, comes from Bilinba, meaning bats. The surf club started in 1938 after a drowning the year before.
Most of Bilinga is taken up by Gold Coast Airport, which spills across the border into Tweed Heads West. The desalination plant sits in the north-west and Southern Cross University's Gold Coast campus in the south. The only housing is a narrow strip just back from the beach, which runs unbroken from Bilinga Beach to North Kirra. About 1,880 people lived here in 2021.
With the airport covering most of the suburb, the narrow strip of beachside homes has wide open skies to the west, though salty onshore winds mean marine-rated hardware is essential.
