Going solar in Coolangatta

The southern Gold Coast stretches from Coolangatta and the beaches of Palm Beach and Burleigh back to Robina, Mudgeeraba and the valleys of Currumbin and Tallebudgera, with everything from beachfront units to acreage.

Over half of Gold Coast houses already have rooftop solar, so a lot of our work here is batteries, upgrades and fixing tired systems, alongside new installs in growth areas like Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau.

Coolangatta is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Being close to the water, Coolangatta gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Coolangatta: history and local area

Europeans were here from at least 1828, first at a convict station and then as red cedar getters. Surveyor Henry Schneider laid out the township in 1883, naming it after the schooner Coolangatta, wrecked on the beach in August 1846, and land sold in March 1884. The railway's arrival in 1903 turned it into a holiday town, and it became the Town of Coolangatta in 1914.

Packed into just 1.8 square kilometres, Coolangatta runs from Kirra Hill to Point Danger on the border, taking in Kirra, Coolangatta and Greenmount beaches. Snapper Rocks, the Point Danger Lighthouse and the Kirra Hill Cultural and Community Centre are local fixtures, and the Strand Shopping Centre holds the library. Four surf clubs patrol the beaches, and about 6,500 people lived here in 2021.

As a holiday and retirement town right on the surf, Coolangatta homes need salt-rated panels and fixings, and retirees at home during the day can use much of their solar output directly.
