Cashmere: history and local area
James Cash, one of the early property owners in the area, is remembered in the suburb's name. Not much else is recorded about how Cashmere was first settled, but over time it became a large, spread-out part of the Pine Rivers district on the edge of the city, with much of its land shaped by the North Pine Dam and the reservoir behind it.
At 34.6 square kilometres, Cashmere is roomy for fewer than 5,000 people. Lake Samsonvale, held back by North Pine Dam on the North Pine River, runs along the northern boundary. Cashmere Village Shopping Centre covers day-to-day needs, and parks include Jan Sked Reserve, Ogle Park and One Mile Park. Kids travel to nearby suburbs for school, as there are none within the suburb.
With so much land per household, many properties here can consider bigger systems or ground mounts, and a battery adds peace of mind for homes further out from the main suburban network.
