Joyner: history and local area
William Joyner took up the Samson Vale pastoral run in 1845, and his family's name eventually became the name of the locality. The country is part of the North Pine River catchment, and the North Pine Dam and its treatment plant now supply about 100 megalitres of water a day. Joyner Central, with a Coles supermarket, is a recent addition on Youngs Crossing Road.
Joyner takes in the eastern end of Lake Samsonvale, where Forgan Cove is set aside for paddle craft and Bullocky Rest offers picnic space. One Mile Creek winds through to the North Pine River, and parks follow its banks. Where Sideling Creek meets the river there is a sandbank popular for swimming and fishing. The YMCA's Camp Warrawee also borders the river. Schools are in nearby Petrie, Lawnton and Bray Park.
Homes near the lake and creeks often have mature trees around them, so a shade check through the day helps decide panel placement and whether microinverters or optimisers are worth it.
