Eatons Hill: history and local area
The hill, and the suburb, honour William Eaton, who farmed at Albany Creek from 1874 and sat on the Pine Shire Council from 1909 to 1912. Long before houses arrived, Cashs Crossing carried the main Brisbane to Gympie route over the South Pine River, and its bridge, finished in 1892, held firm through the 1893 floods. Housing began near the hill in the early 1970s and pushed west in the late 1990s.
The South Pine River forms most of the southern boundary, crossed by the bridge at Cashs Crossing and a ford at Bunya Crossing. Eatons Hill itself reaches 84 metres in the east. Low-density streets give way to acreage further west. The state school opened in 1998 and had more than 1,000 students by 2018. For trains, locals head east to Strathpine station.
Western acreage blocks have space for larger systems or even ground mounts, while low-density streets nearer the river usually have roofs with good open sky for a standard array.
