Crestmead: history and local area
Swedish migrants off the ship Chyebassa took up farms here in 1885, and the Hubner brothers started farming in 1893. For years locals simply called the district Hubner. In 1987 the Shire of Beaudesert moved to make a name official and settled on Crestmead, borrowed from a housing estate in the area. The industrial estate had opened in 1983, followed by the state school in 1984 and St Francis' College in 1988.
Crestmead mixes a large population of about 12,300 people with a serious industrial estate. Lots there range from 1,800 square metres up to 2.6 hectares and suit light and medium industry, with round-the-clock operation allowed. Crestmead Community Park holds the community centre, and the Numbellie Karulboo Community Centre sits within St Francis' College. Crestmead State School looks after primary-age children.
Factories in the industrial estate can run 24 hours, so a large roof system plus storage can cut demand costs, while the housing side suits standard household systems sized to family use.
