Albany Creek: history and local area
Two Aboriginal tracks crossed here, and the main one is now Old Northern Road. The area was first called Chinaman's Creek, but in 1885 locals pushed for a change and chose a name honouring the Duke of Albany. The school opened in 1875, and the South Pine Bridge at Cashs Crossing was finished in 1892. Suburban growth arrived from the 1960s, with several new schools between 1979 and 1989.
Around 17 kilometres north-west of the city, Albany Creek has the South Pine River crossing at Cashs Crossing and the creek that shares its name. Albany Creek Village, with Coles, plus a Woolworths and Aldi cover the shopping. Five schools serve local families, including the state high school opened in 1982. There is no train line, so buses and cars do the work.
With no railway in the suburb, most trips are by car, so households thinking about an electric vehicle may want to allow extra panel capacity for home charging when sizing a system.
