Brendale: history and local area
Bill Bowden's horse stud, set up in the early 1960s, gave Brendale its name. The local library says the word is a corruption of Brentdale, a Northern Ireland property owned by the Davis or Davison family who settled early. Wantima Country Club opened in February 1969 with just six holes, and golfer Cameron Smith later learned the game there.
Mostly industrial, Brendale sits just south of Strathpine on the South Pine River. Light industry, distribution centres and an international business park fill much of it. Powerlink's South Pine Substation is here, with two grid batteries on site. The South Pine Sports Complex and Wantima's 18-hole course provide the recreation, and the Eatons Hill Hotel is at the Bunya Park Drive centre.
Large factory and warehouse roofs suit commercial solar, and with grid-scale batteries already at the local substation, businesses here can see storage in action close to home.
