Going solar in Fingal Head
The Tweed runs from the border at Tweed Heads down the coast to Pottsville and inland along the river to Murwillumbah and Uki, a mix of beach houses, river-flat towns and hinterland acreage.
From the river towns around Murwillumbah to the beach suburbs of Kingscliff, Cabarita and Pottsville, the Tweed sits on the NSW side of the border, so it runs on Essential Energy's network and NSW energy rules.
Fingal Head is on Essential Energy's network, so your system is designed to Essential Energy's connection rules (typically a 5kW export limit) and NSW feed-in tariffs. We handle the network application for you.
- Being close to the water, Fingal Head gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Fingal Head: history and local area
James Cook sighted this headland on 16 May 1770, though there is long-running debate over whether his Point Danger was actually this spot. Robert Dixon mapped the coast in 1840, and the name Fingal shows up on his 1842 map, probably a nod to Fingal's Cave in Scotland with its similar basalt columns. A light station followed in 1872, then a permanent lighthouse in 1878.
The village sits on the Tasman Sea about 5 km south of the Queensland border, with the Tweed River running close behind the coast and Letitia Spit stretching about 2 km down to the headland. Walking tracks lead out to the basalt columns and the lighthouse, and Cook Island, a marine reserve since 1998, lies around 500 metres offshore.
Homes this close to the ocean cop constant salt spray, so panel frames, rails and fasteners rated for marine conditions, plus inverters kept out of the weather, make a real difference to how long a system lasts.
