Going solar in Chinderah
The Tweed runs from the border at Tweed Heads down the coast to Pottsville and inland along the river to Murwillumbah and Uki, a mix of beach houses, river-flat towns and hinterland acreage.
From the river towns around Murwillumbah to the beach suburbs of Kingscliff, Cabarita and Pottsville, the Tweed sits on the NSW side of the border, so it runs on Essential Energy's network and NSW energy rules.
Chinderah is on Essential Energy's network, so your system is designed to Essential Energy's connection rules (typically a 5kW export limit) and NSW feed-in tariffs. We handle the network application for you.
- Low-lying pockets of Chinderah sit inside council flood mapping. Where it matters we mount inverters and batteries above the flood planning level and keep isolators easy to reach.

Chinderah: history and local area
Chinderah is part of the traditional lands of the Ngandowal and Minyungbal-speaking Bundjalung people. One of the few historical records is a photo of Barney's Point Bridge spanning the Tweed River around 1940. That crossing opened in 1936 and drew traffic away from older river towns such as Tumbulgum, showing how the river has long shaped this spot just south of Tweed Heads.
Around 1,640 people lived in Chinderah in 2021. The town sits on the Tweed River with an industrial estate, a golf course and a small shopping precinct, so working sites and homes sit side by side. Kingscliff is right next door for the beach, and Tweed Heads lies a little further north along the river.
Chinderah's industrial estate is home to businesses whose loads often peak during daylight hours, which is exactly when commercial rooftop solar produces the most, while riverside homes should keep batteries above flood height.
