Going solar in Labrador
The central Gold Coast takes in the high-rise strip from Broadbeach to Main Beach, the canal homes of Bundall, Benowa and Isle of Capri, and family suburbs like Ashmore, Nerang and Carrara.
Over half of Gold Coast houses already have rooftop solar, so a lot of our work here is batteries, upgrades and fixing tired systems, alongside new installs in growth areas like Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau.
Labrador is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Being close to the water, Labrador gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Labrador: history and local area
In 1878 Robert Muir and John Lennon bought 139 acres here, and Muir is believed to have named the area after a fishery in north-eastern Canada because of the similar stream fishing and the peninsula shape. A hotel went up around 1881 but burned in 1888, while the Grand Hotel at Deepwater Point opened in 1886. Labrador State School began on swampy land in 1921 before moving to Imperial Parade in 1952.
Labrador looks east across the Gold Coast Broadwater, with Southport on its southern side and Deepwater Point at the northern tip. Creeks once made it known as mosquito country. A rebuilt Grand Hotel opened in 2001, and the council's Labrador Heritage Walk links 21 sites of historical interest. The 2021 census counted 18,643 residents across its 5.7 km².
Homes facing the Broadwater cop salty breezes most days, so it pays to pick panels and racking rated for coastal sites and to mount the inverter and battery on a sheltered wall away from direct spray.
