Going solar in Runaway Bay

The northern Gold Coast is one of the fastest growing parts of Queensland, from the canals of Runaway Bay and Hope Island to new estates in Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau and semi-rural blocks around Wongawallan.

Over half of Gold Coast houses already have rooftop solar, so a lot of our work here is batteries, upgrades and fixing tired systems, alongside new installs in growth areas like Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau.

Runaway Bay is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Being close to the water, Runaway Bay gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Runaway Bay: history and local area

In 1939 Robert George Oates's Anglers Paradise Development Company bought 350 acres along Biggera Creek and the Broadwater, and by the mid 1950s around 50 homes had town water. Lae Enterprises added 182 hectares to the north in 1967, and building on the boating subdivision began in 1972. The Runaway Bay name was first knocked back as a suburb name but stuck after the post office adopted it.

Bordered by Biggera Creek and the Broadwater, Runaway Bay is mostly homes, marinas and parks. The Sports Super Centre on Lae Drive has a stadium and Olympic pool, and Runaway Bay Shopping Centre sits nearby. Pine Ridge Conservation Park fills the north-western corner, while Crab Island and Carters Bank lie offshore. Around 25 parks, two boat ramps and the Bayview Harbour marina complete the picture.

Broadwater homes cop salt-laden breezes, so coastal-rated panels and fixings are sensible, and across the mostly residential streets, a well-placed array with a battery can cover much of a household's evening use.
