Going solar in Main Beach

The central Gold Coast takes in the high-rise strip from Broadbeach to Main Beach, the canal homes of Bundall, Benowa and Isle of Capri, and family suburbs like Ashmore, Nerang and Carrara.

Over half of Gold Coast houses already have rooftop solar, so a lot of our work here is batteries, upgrades and fixing tired systems, alongside new installs in growth areas like Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau.

Main Beach is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Being close to the water, Main Beach gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Main Beach: history and local area

In Southport's early days, visitors took a boat across the Broadwater just to surf on this beach, and that role as the town's main surf beach gave it its name. The state government sold 252 perpetual lease blocks from December 1922, and the Jubilee Bridge in 1926 opened things up. Reclaiming land along the Nerang River in the 1950s created the Tedder Avenue precinct, and the old name Southport East gave way on 1 September 1967.

Ocean lies to the east, the Gold Coast Seaway to the north and the Broadwater channels to the west, with the narrow neck of land leading south to Surfers Paradise. Sea World is the big drawcard, alongside the Southport Yacht Club Marina, boat ramps and roughly 15 parks. Norfolk Island pines line the foreshore, and Tedder Avenue has the high-rises, cafes and boutiques.

Surrounded by surf, seaway and Broadwater, homes here get salt from every direction, so marine-rated components and sheltered battery placement are basic requirements, and apartment owners will usually need body corporate sign-off.
