Going solar in Manly

Brisbane's bayside east, from Wynnum and Manly through Tingalpa and Wakerley, mixes breezy bayfront homes with quieter family streets, and salt air near the water is a real design consideration.

Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.

Manly is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Being close to the water, Manly gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.
  • Many Manly homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Manly: history and local area

Land was surveyed in 1859, and Joseph Lewthwaite put up the first house, a stone homestead named Wyvernleigh. James R. Dickson auctioned the Manly Beach Estate in 1882, probably naming it after the Sydney beach. Manly station was one of the original stops when the Cleveland line opened in 1889. A seaside favourite by the early 1900s, it gained its boat harbour in 1958.

Moreton Bay is the front yard here, with Darling Point and Norfolk Point framing Rose Bay and Eastwood Beach. The 41.8 hectare boat harbour holds the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron and a Coast Guard base. Roughly 4,270 people live on 2.7 square kilometres, around 19.9 km east of the CBD, with Manly Harbour Village handling shopping and the train station close by.

Bayside salt spray is the main thing to plan for, so marine-grade fixings and sensible inverter placement are worth discussing. Heritage homes, like the Spanish Mission house on Royal Esplanade, may also need careful panel placement.
