Going solar in Lota
Brisbane's bayside east, from Wynnum and Manly through Tingalpa and Wakerley, mixes breezy bayfront homes with quieter family streets, and salt air near the water is a real design consideration.
Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.
Lota is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Being close to the water, Lota gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Lota: history and local area
The Mipirimm subclan of the Quandamooka people lived here before William Duckett White took up the land in 1860. His home, Lota House, was finished in 1863 and lent the suburb its name. Trains arrived in 1889, and Lota served as the end of the line from 1960 until the Cleveland link reopened in stages in the 1980s. Subdivision began in 1911.
Lota Creek marks the southern edge before draining into Moreton Bay, and the shoreline is mostly mangroves and mudflats around Fig Tree Point. About 3,500 people live on 3.5 square kilometres, 19.7 km east of the CBD. Lota Foreshore Park has playgrounds and sculptures, there is a boardwalk over the creek, and Bayside United plays at Don Randall Oval.
Post-war houses here are steadily being replaced by modern beachside builds, and a new build is the easiest time to plan roof layout and battery wiring. Salt air from the bay also calls for corrosion-resistant hardware.
