Going solar in Thorneside
The Redlands coast runs from Capalaba and Birkdale through Cleveland and Victoria Point to Redland Bay and the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, with plenty of larger blocks around Mount Cotton and Sheldon.
Redlands homes face Moreton Bay, so salt air, sea breezes and the island communities all shape how we design and install systems from Capalaba to Redland Bay.
Thorneside is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Being close to the water, Thorneside gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Thorneside: history and local area
Back in 1913 this was Thorne's estate, carved into lots for sale. The suburb borrows its name from the railway station, which began life as Thorne's siding after landholder William Thorne. Housing estates grew up mainly along Thorneside and Mooroondu Roads, giving the place the compact residential layout it has today.
At just 3.2 square kilometres, this is a small bayside spot on Waterloo Bay, with Tingalpa Creek along the west and Mooroondu Point at the creek mouth. Queens Esplanade has a boat ramp, and a canoe club operates beside the creek. William Taylor Memorial Sportsfield caters for soccer, netball, cricket and tennis, and the Cleveland line stops at Thorneside station.
Homes this close to Waterloo Bay deal with salt-laden breezes, which makes corrosion-resistant mounting hardware and regular panel rinsing worth factoring into any rooftop solar or battery plan.
