Going solar in Wynnum

Brisbane's bayside east, from Wynnum and Manly through Tingalpa and Wakerley, mixes breezy bayfront homes with quieter family streets, and salt air near the water is a real design consideration.

Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.

Wynnum is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Being close to the water, Wynnum gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.
  • Many Wynnum homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Wynnum: history and local area

The Quandamooka connection to this shoreline goes back more than 25,000 years. Europeans first settled near the mouth of Wynnum Creek, and Aboriginal men helped build the first jetty in the 1850s. Once the railway came through in the late 1880s, growth picked up fast. A shire council formed in 1902, and Wynnum was folded into the City of Brisbane in 1925.

Facing Moreton Bay, about 19.6 km east of the CBD by road, Wynnum held just over 14,000 residents in 2021. Locals walk the jetty, cool off at the wading pool or on Pandanus Beach, built with Stradbroke sand in 1987. Bayside Parklands open up roughly 16 km of shoreline, and three Cleveland line stations serve the suburb, along with the Seagulls and a golf club.

Homes this close to Moreton Bay cop salty breezes, so it pays to ask about corrosion ratings on panels, rails and fixings, and to keep inverters and batteries out of the direct sea air where possible.
