Going solar in New Farm

Inner Brisbane is full of character: Queenslanders, workers cottages and townhouses on small lots in places like Paddington, West End, New Farm and Bulimba, where neat installs and careful panel layout matter.

Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.

New Farm is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Many New Farm homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

New Farm: history and local area

The Turrbal people called this river bend Binkinba. Commandant Patrick Logan set up a new farm here in 1827 for the penal colony, and the name stuck. Samuel Griffith built his house, Merthyr, in 1870, and trams ran from 1885 until 1969. New Farm State School opened in 1901, a marine base operated here during World War II, and infill and gentrification reshaped the suburb from the 1990s.

The river surrounds much of New Farm, leaving road access only from Fortitude Valley and Newstead. New Farm Park fills the south eastern tip, beside the Brisbane Powerhouse, a former tram power station turned arts venue. Brunswick Street and Merthyr Village are full of cafés and shops. Housing ranges from colonial and Federation homes to art deco blocks, with units making up over 70 per cent of dwellings.

Most homes here are units, so shared building systems are the main path, while owners of Queenslander and Federation houses should check heritage overlays and neighbouring apartment shade before choosing panel placement.
